I’ve been getting into Tarot cards, studying them with as much reverence as any other belief system I’ve studied – which is to say, not that much.
The Tarot study I followed advised me to go through the deck, one card at a time, and note my first impressions. Here are some of the ones that stood out to me from the major arcana – the next two posts will feature the minor arcana:
![]() | The Fool: This Fool’s gonna get himself killed, but at least he’ll have a flower on his grave. (I hope the dog stays safe, though.) |
![]() | The Lovers: Poor Adam & Eve, given paradise but not allowed to enjoy it. |
![]() | The Chariot: Mom and Dad are gone and I’ve got the keys to the chariot – who’s up for a joy ride? |
![]() | Jim Thornton: “Coming to you from your weirdest dream, it’s…” Audience screams in unison: “Wheel! Of! Fortune!” Angels and demons and sphinx – oh my! And a weird-ass compass spinning round in the sky. |
![]() | The Hanged Man: He’s hanging up-side down by his ankle, and his head might be on fire, but he seems pretty chill about it. |
![]() | Temperance: Only half a glass of wine for you, daffodil. You’ll thank me later. |
![]() | The Devil: Hey dude, it’s me, Lucifer, with Adam & Eve again. They may be chained, but at least they’re having fun. Live long and prosper, brah. |
![]() | The Tower: EEEEEEEEYYYYAAAAAGH! |
![]() | The Moon: I see crawfish a-crawling, I know the end is coming soon. I hear hound dogs a-howlin, I hear the voice of rage and ruin. Oh, don’t come around tonight… |
![]() | The Sun: Why is this baby riding a pony unattended? Where are his parents? |
![]() | Judgment: It’s an end-of-days cultist’s wet dream. |
![]() | The World: And the winner of the Miss World pageant is the gal who made the daring choice to wear nothing in the swimsuit competition and twirled batons as her talent. Now here are all four Evangelists to crown her with a laurel wreath! |
